About Fit to Fly Certificate

What we do

Two things. We issue fit to fly certificates and travel medical letters, reviewed and signed by GMC-registered UK doctors. And we publish what we think is the most complete reference in the UK on flying with a medical condition — airline by airline, condition by condition, with the source and check date on every page.

The second exists because of a gap we kept running into. Someone asks whether they can fly at 34 weeks pregnant, or six days after their child’s chickenpox started, and the answers online are a mixture of forum anecdote, out-of-date blog posts and airline pages that are hard to find and harder to compare. The facts are knowable. They are just not collected anywhere.

How the information here is produced

Every factual claim on this site — every cut-off week, waiting period and certificate requirement — is checked against a primary source: the airline’s own published policy, the UK Civil Aviation Authority, the NHS, the RCOG or GOV.UK. Each page lists the sources used and the date they were checked, and airline policies are re-verified quarterly because they change without announcement.

Where sources disagree, we say so rather than picking the tidier answer. Jet2’s published material, for example, states two different limits for multiple pregnancies in two different places; we follow the flight terms and flag the discrepancy on the page.

Where we do not know, we say that too. Several airlines publish no chickenpox waiting period at all. The honest answer is to tell you that and suggest contacting them, not to invent a number.

Clinical oversight

Certificates are issued by GMC-registered UK doctors under the clinical oversight of Dr Maria Knobel, Medical Director (GMC 7495073). Content on this site is clinically reviewed, and the review date appears on each page.

A certificate is a clinical judgement, not a purchase. A doctor reviews every request individually and will decline where issuing one would not be clinically appropriate. If that happens, you are refunded in full.

What this service is not

It is not a substitute for your own GP, and it is not urgent care. We cannot examine you, we do not manage ongoing conditions, and we do not prescribe. If you are unwell, see a doctor. If it is an emergency, call 999.

We also cannot overrule an airline. If a carrier’s rule says you cannot travel, no letter changes that — what a doctor can do is document the clinical position for your insurer.
